2020 has seen a rough start for all of us, including our friends in the restaurant business. Minnesotans are at home a lot more, and Governor Tim Walz has ordered Minnesota restaurants and bars to close their dining rooms to customers, but many are staying open for takeout and delivery. As the “Stay-at-Home” order is now extended to early May, we wanted to share some of our staff’s favorite local restaurants near our offices that remain open for takeout and delivery.
Is takeout safe right now?
The CDC has stated that1 “Currently there is no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 associated with food” though you should wash your hands before eating. Their website states a few more ways to stay safe and keep others safe while getting takeout food2:
- If possible, pay online or on the phone when you order.
- Accept deliveries without in-person contact whenever possible. Ask for deliveries to be left in a safe spot outside your house (such as your front porch or lobby), with no person-to-person interaction. Otherwise, stay at least 6 feet away from the delivery person.
- After receiving your delivery or bringing home your takeout food, wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Here are some of our Favorites, open near some of our offices! Please support our local friends!
Buca di Beppo
Buca has a wide selection of authentic Italian food. The portions are made to feed 3 or more people so this can be a good option for you and everyone you’re “stuck with” for the month (Or you, 3 times). I am a big fan of the Chicken Parmigiana.

Que Viet Village House
Que Viet is currently running takeout through a walk up window. If you are looking for a local place for Chinese-Vietnamese fare, this is your place. The best eggrolls!

50’s Grill
This is a retro style diner, and when we were younger, was known as Farrell’s! They have a good selection of American classics and fantastic malts. With takeout, you will miss out a bit on the 50’s vibes but the food is well worth it in its own right. We are split between the Grilled chicken salad and the Cajun chicken sandwich for our favorite dish, but the Burgers are also great!

Smack Shack
Local food truck turned full restaurant in the North Loop. They make a great option for takeout seafood(& more) right now. You can’t go wrong with the Lobster Rolls or any of the Chicken Wings.

Fat Nat’s Eggs
Looking for a hefty heap of home style breakfast foods? Look no further! Although they do it early because they close at 1:30 AM on the weekdays. Whatever you pick, I would recommend a side of Corn beef hash with it.

Short Stops Bar & Grill Coon Rapids
Bar food that is worth it without the bar. This is a good option if you’re looking for a delicious burger at a good price.

Pub 42
Another good place for burgers in a different part of the Cities. If you have been here before you might notice they have a reduced menu. They still have their 25 top selling items. Although I normally go for the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, I still have a lot of options.

Nong’s Thai Cuisine
Nong’s is currently open with temporary hours. You can pick up food from 3pm to 8 PM. While the lunch buffet is definitely out, the Pineapple fried rice is always super good.

Big Apple Bagels
It’s hard to go wrong with bagels and these guys do their own delivery. They also have sandwiches and muffins so you got some options too. I go for a classic Poppy seed bagel and some cream cheese.

Hoban Korean Restaurant
A lot of restaurants have reduced hours right now and that can make it harder to find a place to eat late at night. Hoban is open from 4pm to at least 11pm making it a great choice for late night Korean food. Try the Dolsot Bibimbap!

A good option for American Cuisine in Delano. They are currently offering curbside pickup so its easy to swing by and pick up a reuben. They currently have split hours to be open for lunch and dinner.
